While the rest of New York gets ready for the big Thanksgiving Day parade in Manhattan, the students at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy in Queens are creating their own floats to celebrate the holiday.

The gym at Our Lady of the Snows will turn into Herald Square on Tuesday, November 25 at 10 a.m. when students use wheeled wagons, gym scooter or their own kid-power to parade their floats for fellow students, teachers and parents.

Each grade chose a theme for their floats, including Sesame Street, storybook characters, Disney, games, turkeys, basketball, cartoons and more and students will dress up in the theme of their floats as well.

“Creating the floats for our Thanksgiving parade is fun because it’s a great way to show off our creativity,” says fourth grader Lucciana Toloza. “My class had a Disney theme and we had fun making a float from our favorite movies and characters.  I can’t wait to see the rest of the school’s floats and balloons!”

Fourth grade teacher Regina Rasa adds, “I am so excited to have our first OLS Thanksgiving Day parade.  It’s great to see the students’ creativity and imagination shine – whether they are making floats or balloons.  I am a great supporter of school wide projects because it builds a school community and shows school spirit.  It’s wonderful to give the students something that is memorable and fun.”
