While Thanksgiving celebrations are an American tradition, that doesn’t mean that every holiday feast includes only the traditional turkey and fixings.  St. Clare Catholic Academy in Queens will celebrate Thanksgiving with a Culture Feast on Tuesday, November 25 at Noon, when students will enjoy the foods of the many countries and traditions, joining together to celebrate St. Clare’s blend of many cultures.

Each class parent organizes donations from their children’s class with families preparing and sending in traditional foods that are served on the Holiday in their homes. The cultural feast typically includes food from various ethnic backgrounds within our school community, including ham, rice and peas, empanadas, baked ziti, jerk turkey, collard greens, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, string beans, Haitian Black rice and more.

“It is a great experience for our school community to eat together and share their food and traditions,” says Shamilia Courtois, mom of kids in grade 2 and grade 8.

“I love to see all our children celebrating so many cultures. The event signifies the family atmosphere St. Clare cultivates reminding us how diverse our school community truly is,” adds Sarynna Adino, mom of a student in Grade 6.
